About Pinacoteca Nazionale

Pinacoteca Nazionale in Siena is a National Painting Gallery that houses many works by master artists. The gallery has one of the largest collections of Sienese paintings with gold backgrounds from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.

The collection was begun by Abbot Joseph Ciaccheri the late eighteenth century and later expanded through bequests and donations, since 1930 it became state property and since 1932 has been permanently placed in the current headquarters of National Painting Gallery Siena. From 1977 to receive the collection Spannocchi, consisting of paintings by Flemish masters including Nordic and Dürer. Since 1977 the building was inaugurated in the Hall of Sculpture, works by Siena's masters of the XIV - XV century.

It 's impossible to list all the works you can find and see there because they are many, but it is enough to know that inside there are works of great artists such as Duccio, Simone Martini and the brothers Lorenzetti, Sodoma, Beccafumi and many others.
