The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities
About Museo Egizio
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Turin, better known simply as the Egyptian Museum of Turin, is considered for its importance of the finds, among the largest in the world with the Louvre in Paris and the British Museum in London and second one only to that of Cairo.
The museum is dedicated exclusively to art and culture of ancient Egypt. Many scholars of international renown, from deciphering of Egyptian hieroglyphs, Jean-Francois Champollion, who arrived in Torino in 1824, since then devoted to the study of his collections, thus confirming what Champollion wrote:
"The road to Memphis and Thebes passes from Turin."
Museum of Egyptian Antiquities consists of a set of collections that have overlapped in time. The findings you can find inside the museum are as a result of the excavations conducted by the Italian Archaeological Mission in Egypt between 1900 and 1935. At that time the policy was in force that the archaeological finds were divided between Egypt and the archaeological missions. In nowadays the current test requires that the findings remain to Egypt.
