Duomo di San Giovanni in Turin is a cathedral that you should not miss to visit coming to Torino.

Duomo of Torino is mostly famous and visited for the Sacra Sindone (The Holy Shroud) of Jesus Christ carefully saved in the its Chapel. Usually it is exposed to the public once every 10 year. Last time it was possible to see it in 2010 for Easter. So if you would like to see it next time look first for information in internet.

The present cathedral, the first example of Renaissance architecture in Turin, was built at the behest of Bishop Domenico Della Rovere area of three medieval churches dedicated to the Saviour, St. John the Baptist and St. Mary. The project, the architect of the Goat Tuscan Meo, was built between 1491 and 1498.

In the seventeenth century the building was renovated with the addition of the chapel of the Holy Shroud by Guarino Guarini that connects the Royal Palace to the cathedral. The bell tower of St. Andrew, completed in 1469, was raised in 1720 to plans by Juvarra. The facade, of which there are three elegant portals, with its coating of white marble was an anomaly compared to contemporary brick buildings. The interior, a basilica, is a Latin cross with three naves with Gothic elements. The side chapels contain altars devotional to the second altar of nave of the right aisle of the Company of Shoemakers of Martin Defendente Spanzotti and Ferrari. The side stairs leading to the back of the sanctuary to the chapel of the Holy Shroud were built between 1668 and 1694 and designed by Guarino Guarini The masterpiece of Baroque architecture is currently being restored after the fire of 11 April 1997.

Sundays and holy days: 9.00, 10.30 (Parish) 18.00 (chapter).

Weekdays: 7.30 am, 18.00 (Monday to Friday).

Liturgy of the Hours: Sunday - Vespers at 17.30; Weekdays - 8.00 am Lauds, Vespers at 17.45.

Confessions: Every day a canon is available for confession.

Rosary in the months of May and October at 17.20.

Way of the Cross: Fridays of Lent at 17.00 in front of the St. Shroud.

Eucharistic Adoration: Every 1 st Friday of the month 17.00 - 18.00.

Parish Office: Weekdays 10.00 - 12.00 / 16.00 - 18.00.

On Saturday, the parish priest is available (except pastoral commitments) for interviews, meetings and information.
