The Civic Museum in Siena is located on the first floor of the Palazzo Pubblico, Piazza del Campo.

It is accessed from the courtyard of the Palace. The museum has a historical and artistic heritage of outstanding value due to works such as Simone Martini's Majesty, the Good and Bad Government by Ambrogio Lorenzetti to the Italians and foreign paintings dating from the XVI and XI centuries, ceramic manufacturing of Siena XIV and XVIII, and other valuable collections. In the Council Hall was placed one rotating world map painted by Ambrogio Lorenzetti in 1345, consists of a round rotating frame covered with light material, unfortunately it was lost.

Having a central position in Italy Toscana is bordered on the north-west with Liguria to the north with the Emilia-Romagna, on the east by the Marche and Umbria, on the south by Lazio. On the west part of Toscana you will find many of its beautiful beaches.

The regional capital of Toscana is Firenze (Florence), at about 370,580 inhabitants and it is the main fulcrum historical, artistic, economic and administrative center. The other provincial capitals are: Arezzo, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato, Siena.

In the territory of Toscana are included also the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago, in addition to a small enclave located within the boundaries of the Emilia-Romagna, which are located in some localities of the town of Badia Tedalda.

Etruscan Acropolis in Volterra is a vast area in Piano di Castello where you can read through the various layers of the birth and development of the city from the prehistory to the fifteenth century. It appears visible the foundations of two buildings identified as temples A and B separated by a road intertemplare that surrounds and defines in part the place of worship.

Remains of houses of the Hellenistic period, a complex system of tanks, including the so-called swimming pools, streets and medieval towers of foundations resting on the oldest, the endless landscape that runs from the Apennines to the Tirreno Sea makes this place one of the most interesting and enjoyable city​​.

In 1987 it resumed the excavation of the Acropolis under the direction of Prof. Volterra Marisa Bonamici that, together with the excavation of Doro Levi (1926) and Mauro Cristofani (1967-1972) have greatly enriched the stratigraphic sequence and structural site.

Terricciola

"The main street of the castle, winding but flat is surrounded by good and comfortable houses to alternate humble houses. In high table-land, which is approached by two steps, sits the 'Arcipretura embellished with modern restorations. At the end of the castle is a large square destined to public games, adjoining it an oratory or brotherhood. a small chapel is also found at opposite end of the castle and out of it a more grandiose, which was built in 1729 and restored in 1815 ."

Terricciola is a small village in Toscana with 3 wings picturesque situated on the top of the hills of Toscana in an area famous like Valdera on the Path of Vine.

Terricciola lies at the confluence of the Valleys Era, Cascina and small river Sterza.

 

A little history of Terricciola

Terricciola is an ancient small village of the Etruscan origin, as documented by the discovery of settlements in the villages of Morrona and Soiana, where you can find Hellenistic necropolis with tombs and underground rooms.

Originally Terricciola was dotted by towers for defense, where the name of village Terricciola came from, in Latin "turris". Terricciola had a significant role in the territories under the Bishop of Volterra during the twelfth century. Terricciola often was a point of conflict in the wars between Pisa and Florence, in 1284 the population of Terricciola swore allegiance to the Republic of Florence. But in 1496 the city of Pisa took control of Terricciola again.

The plebiscite of 1860 for the annexation of Tuscany to Sardinia the "yes" received not the majority of claimants (425 of total 1063), a sign of opposition to the annexation.

The Roman Theater of Volterra

The Roman Theater in Volterra was unearthed in the fifties from archaeological excavations in the town of Vallebuona E. Fiumi.

The monument is dated to the late I-st century BC and its construction was financed by the wealthy family of Volterra Caecina. The theater was partially excavated in the natural slope of an elevation, in analogy to the Greek theater. At the end of the third century, the theater was abandoned in the vicinity of the stage was installed a thermal plant. In the medieval city walls encompass the closing wall of the upper part of the steps.

The remains of ancient buildings are currently within the archaeological visit. It is accessible from the upper region just outside Porta Fiorentina and is used (although rarely) in the summer for theater.

Roman Theater Volterra held an Annual International Festival artistically directed by Simone Migliorini, each year are also awarded "Ombra della Sera" prizes to the most important people of the spectacle.
