Castello di Miramare (Miramare Castle)
About Miramare Castle
Castello di Miramare (Miramare Castle) is a small beautiful castle located just on the beach of Adriatic sea in the gulf of Trieste and very close to the city. It was built from 1856 to 1860 for Austrian Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian and his wife Charlotte of Belgium.
The castle's grounds include an extensive cliff and seashore park of 22 hectares (54 acres) designed by the Archduke. The grounds were completely re-landscaped to feature numerous tropical species of trees and plants.
Isolated between the sea and the green park the Miramare Castle looks like a haunted castle. And in some sense it is magic but the legend says that a tragic fate persecutes those who live there.
The castle was completed in 1860 by Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg for his young wife married three years earlier (1857).
